In the 2016 presidential primaries, Indiana Democrats selected Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders as their nominee for the Democratic presidential nominee. At the Democratic National Convention the state was tallied as voting for Hillary Clinton because six of our seven unpledged Democratic party delegates (also called superdelegates) voted for Hillary Clinton. Senator Joe Donnelly was one of the six unpledged delegates who overrode the popular vote.
Thanks to Lake County's own representative Pete Visclosky for abstaining from voting as an unpledged delegate. Sanders supporters would've appreciated it if he'd voted for Senator Sanders at the convention, but at least he refrained from betraying his constituents.

Why is Senator Bernie Sanders
the most popular politician in the U.S.?
Senator Sanders's is the most popular politician in the U.S. because he empathizes with and speaks out for ordinary citizens. As an example, he spoke for them when he responded to President Trump's January 30 State of the Union speech. Listen to his speech on Facebook here
